Recommendation
Although, like many others, I normally don't enjoy reading plays, I would strongly suggest The Importance of Being Earnest. It is a short drama that can easily be covered in one sitting, and is entertaining throughout. It's easy to relate to the main character, John Worthing, as he uses an alternate personality to escape his social obligations; an ability we would all like to possess. Today the play is seen as humorous because of its obvious comment on the social customs of the British Victorian era, and it is a comical read, but it was not received that way when it was first published. I would also suggest another of Wilde's well-known plays, Lady Windermere's Fan, in which Wilde demonstrates his talent at making serious institutions, such as marriage, very comical.
